The S58 is the engine in the G80 M3, G82 M4 and related M cars. It shares the modular idea of the B58, and people therefore ask if a B58 block, or a whole B58, can stand in for an S58 to save money. It cannot, not as a replacement we would ship for a standard car.
Related is not the same
The S58 has its own crank, its own pair of turbos, its own sump and its own engine management. The B58 in an M340i or a 540i is a different assembly with a different computer. Fitting one into the other is a conversion project: loom, gearbox, exhaust, cooling and coding. That is not what a replacement engine from this yard is for.
What to match
Match S58B30T0 or S58B30T to the VIN, and match the oil pan to the car. Competition and CS models are not a licence to ignore the code. The turbos on these engines are close together and the pipes around them should be complete. A missing charge pipe is a small part. A missing turbo is not included just because the title says complete.
A fair used S58
These are young engines. Low mileage is common and is not, by itself, proof of anything. Ask what failed in the car: a front-end impact can crack a sump and leave the rotating assembly untouched, which is a reasonable used engine. A knock, or metal in the oil, is not.

Coding is part of the job
An S58 that is mechanically the right engine still has to match the car's control units. A workshop that can fit the block and cannot code the immobiliser has only done half the job. Agree that before the pallet is ordered, not when the car is apart.
Keep the turbos, the sump and the harness that arrived with the engine together. Mixing B58 pipes onto an S58 because they were on the shelf is how a new engine smokes on the first pull.
